Gloom appears as an exploration pressure/resource layer: it can obscure interactions, contribute to dangerous rest states, and be stored or redirected by specific cards and structures. Use Reveal effects on obscured targets and treat “store Gloom” tools as build resources, but do not assume every Gloom number follows one solved formula yet.
Version note: This page is written for the September 10, 2026 Early Access launch. Shroom and Gloom is actively changing, so treat older demo videos as historical unless the same behavior appears in launch footage or official notes.
What is safe to say at launch
Current footage repeatedly shows Gloom around exploration: obscured objects can require Reveal, certain cards or structures can store Gloom, and players can move that value into other effects or card growth. The game also uses “the Gloom” as a destination/theme, so context matters when people use the word.
Reveal first
If a room looks empty but the UI marks something as obscured, a Reveal action can expose the next interaction. That may then require Fix, Ignite, Break or another verb. Spending the wrong card before revealing can leave you stuck with a worse rest cycle.
Stored Gloom is not automatically bad
Launch footage shows Dark Crystal-style effects that reveal and store Gloom, then later direct that value into another card or reward. So the right question is not “How do I remove all Gloom?” but “What does this room let me do with it?”
Why this guide avoids a numeric formula
Players in the launch videos sometimes stop to work out where a Gloom value went or what exactly changed. That is a sign not to publish a fake equation on day one. We will update this page when the mechanic is cleanly documented or consistently reproduced.
For rest damage specifically, use Warmth & Threat.
