What Foresights do, how they differ from Combat and Explore cards, and how to choose a run modifier that supports the deck you are actually building.

Quick answer

Foresights are the passive layer of a run. Choose them for the behavior your deck already repeats — Fatal kills, eating, bashing, drawing or scaling — rather than for a flashy effect you may never trigger. The best Foresight is usually the one that fires often without forcing awkward plays.

Version note: This page is written for the September 10, 2026 Early Access launch. Shroom and Gloom is actively changing, so treat older demo videos as historical unless the same behavior appears in launch footage or official notes.

Where Foresights fit

Shroom and Gloom is officially described as a double-deckbuilder because Combat and Explore are the two hands you actively play. Launch footage also shows a separate Foresight deck/layer that holds passive run modifiers.

That distinction matters: a Foresight does not need to be drawn like a normal attack. Its value comes from how often your normal play triggers it.

Choose frequency over fantasy

A passive that triggers every time you do something common can beat a bigger effect that only happens once. If your run already makes food constantly, an eat-related Foresight has a natural home. If your build is built around Fatal, then a Fatal trigger can turn every clean kill into more draw or another advantage.

Do not bend a good deck around a bad passive

If you have already invested several upgrades into a clean growth plan, do not suddenly add five food cards because one Foresight mentions eating. The passive should support the deck, not rewrite it unless the payoff is truly run-defining.

Foresight selection checklist

  • Does this trigger happen in almost every fight or exploration room?
  • Does it make my best cards easier to draw or stronger?
  • Does it solve a weakness: healing, energy, draw, route access?
  • Will I have to take bad cards just to activate it?
  • Does another choice improve a behavior I already use?
